The dragon defender is the strongest defender in the game. It is used for its attack and strength bonus and is held in the shield slot. It requires level 60 Defence to equip.
It can only be obtained if the player has a combined Attack and Strength of 130, or level 99 in either Attack or Strength. It is exclusively obtained as a rare drop in the basement of the Warriors' Guild from the cyclopes that reside there. The entrance to the basement is outside, west of the building.
Its defensive bonuses are comparable to those of an adamant square shield, with slight differences. Its strength bonus is only surpassed by the dragonfire shield, which gives a +7 strength bonus. However, the dragon defender is commonly regarded as the superior offensive item due to its unrivaled melee attack bonuses, which generally results in higher damage output overall.
If the player dies below level 20 Wilderness, it will remain in the player's inventory. However, the item will be unusable and must be repaired with 40,000 coins by using the item on Perdu.
Players can attach a dragon defender ornament kit, obtained from master clue scrolls, to cosmetically enhance the defender, creating a dragon defender (t). This only alters its appearance, and gives no stat enhancements. It can be dismantled, returning the defender and ornament kit.
