Guthix is the god of balance. After arriving in Gielinor and being amazed by its perfection, he invited many races he deemed worthy to inhabit the world; most notably gnomes, elves, dwarves, humans and sheep, and after doing so, Guthix went into a deep sleep. When he awoke, the gods, most notably, Saradomin and Zamorak were causing chaos in their God Wars. The battlefield was in the region known as Forinthry. To stop the wars, Guthix cast out all the gods and created a physical barrier around RuneScape, the Edicts of Guthix, warning that they may not interfere in the world except in smaller forms, such as the use of prayer. Guthix shows he needs no followers to exist by absorbing energy from the earth. Guthix is a shapeshifter, and able to take the form of anything; he was as a butterfly when he came to Gielinor. Guthix's god symbol is the Tear of Guthix.

Evidence from the God letters suggests that Guthix is the strongest of the gods.

Religion[]

Guthix is the god of balance, meaning that he does not favour one god's opinions more than another's. Many player followers of Guthix tend to choose to favour neither the path of chaos and evil (Zamorak) nor the path of wisdom and order (Saradomin). But to break the Guthixian population down even more, there are two general groups: Modernists and Traditionalist (A.K.A. Premodernist).

Modernists[]

Modernists make up the majority of Guthixians. They believe in balance more loosely, and will tend to side with one of the other two major gods. They acknowledge Saradomin and Zamorak as the gods of order and chaos.

Traditionalists[]

Traditionalists are in much fewer numbers than the Modernists. They are a bit more strict to the beliefs and teachings of Guthix's ideals on balance and nature. They will typically acknowledge that Zaros and Armadyl are still the true gods of evil and justice, but that Saradomin and Zamorak have "temporarily" taken their places. Many NPCs (such as Gypsy Aris, druids and Void Knights) may be traditionalists.
