Herbiboars are creatures native to the Mushroom Forest in Fossil island, with herbs growing on their back. To track them, players will require level 80 Hunter, while 31 Herblore is required to harvest their herbs.
Note that players can use hunter potions to boost from 77, or a stew from 75, to start the tracking by inspecting a rock, after which they no longer have to keep their Hunter at 80 in order to inspect other objects or harvest the herbiboar's herbs. Doing so will gain decreased experience, as the experience gained from successfully tracking one scales from the player's base Hunter level.
Players can track how many herbiboars they have harvested by right-clicking Check count on an inspect-able rock, mushroom, or log next to a hunter icon on the minimap, and they also see the count when they harvest one.
Tracking
Tracking a herbiboar starts by inspecting the rock, mushroom, or log next to the hunter icon on the minimap. Tracking the creatures involves inspecting rocks, seaweed, muddy patches, and mushrooms around the area to find tracks, each inspection earning 50 Hunter xp, and occasionally giving numulite and/or unidentified fossils. By following the tracks more objects can be inspected to eventually reveal a tunnel containing a herbiboar. A ring of pursuit cannot be used to track herbiboars. On rare occasions, the player may fail to track it down. When this occurs, a message will appear in the chatbox, stating The creature has successfully confused you with its tracks, leading you round in circles. You'll need to start again.
Experience and harvesting
Once the player attacks the tunnel, Hunter xp is earned and herbs can be harvested from the creature. 1,950 xp is the base value and scales with level, 30 additional experience gained per level above level 80 Hunter, up to level 95. From 95 to 99, 19 additional experience gained per level is gained[1]. It should be noted that the herbiboar will disappear if a new track is started before harvesting it.
Harvesting the herbiboar earns Herblore xp, the amount depending upon the amount of herbs collected. There is a chance to obtain the Herbi pet when a player harvests the creature. Wielding magic secateurs yields more/better quality herbs while harvesting the herbiboar. A farming cape will not work when harvesting the herbiboar.
