Iron dragons are one of the Four types of metal dragons. It is especially dangerous, as with all metal dragons, due to its ability to shoot long-range magical dragonfire. A dragonfire shield, or an Anti-dragon shield coupled with an antifire potion is necessary for full dragonfire protection; having only one form of protection will result in some dragonfire damage being inflicted onto the player.
Magic is a common method of killing these creatures since they will not attempt to close in the distance to melee, rendering the character invulnerable as long as they keep their dragonfire protection (with both an Anti-fire potion AND an Anti-dragon shield). Ranged can also be effective with a high ranged level. Melee users are recommended to wear Proselyte or Bandos armour and use the Protect from Melee prayer.
Iron dragons are quite commonly hunted due to being relatively easy to kill and also being able to drop rare items such as dragon platelegs and the dragon plateskirt. Another sought-after item is the rare draconic visage.
Iron dragons are found in the Brimhaven Dungeon and the Stronghold Slayer Cave.
