Onyx gems are rare gems used in the Crafting skill. They are the second rarest gems in Old School Runescape, behind the zenyte which is created from an onyx and a zenyte shard.
An onyx can be obtained by using a chisel on an uncut onyx with a crafting level of 67 or higher. An onyx can be cut at level 73 Fletching to create 24 onyx bolt tips (resulting in −2,731,169 profit).
Cut onyx can be crafted into jewellery, requiring a gold bar and the corresponding mould.
Onyx jewellery can be enchanted by casting the Lvl-6 Enchant spell on a piece of onyx jewellery, requiring level 87 Magic, 20 earth runes, 20 fire runes and 1 cosmic rune to cast, and granting 97 experience.
Six of these are used to build a volcanic theme at level 85 Construction in a player's Superior Garden. In addition, one is used to build an obsidian decorative bench at level 98 Construction.
