Red vine worms are used during the quest Fishing Contest. It's used as bait to help you win the contest after talking to Grandpa Jack. It can be found west of the Fairy ring (fairy ring code: als) in McGrubor's Wood. In order to be able to get these, you must have a spade in your inventory.
The red vine worm is also one of the possible items that may be required for the magic secateurs during Fairy Tale I - Growing Pains.
