William, the shield master, is an NPC found in the western corner of the Ranging Guild. He introduces players to leather shields, a class of ranged shield.
If asked, he can give players a leather shields flyer, which details the materials needed to create each shield, although speaking to him is not required to craft or equip leather shields.

- Shield master: Although archers like myself like to keep distance from our enemies, it's always good to have a bit of protection.

- Shield master: I am a bit of a craftsman, I indeed made all these shields.
- Player: How do you make them?
- Shield master: It's very simple! First you'll need to be skilled in crafting and fletching, the exact details you can find in your skill guide.
- Shield master: For every shield, you'll require some tools! A knife for fletching the wood and a hammer for crafting the shield.
- Shield master: As for resources, you'll need 2 logs, 2 pieces of tanned leather and 15 nails.
