Slayer is widely considered one of the most arduous of all 99 skills to achieve, and one of the most difficult skills to train in game. It requires a large amount of concentration to train and gains generally quite slow exp rates, which are dependent upon the current assigned task and combat levels of the player.

{{Skill 99s|Slayer}}
However, high hourly exp rates can be obtained while training the Slayer skill, the problem with training Slayer is that high exp rates are very intermittent as they are completely dependent upon the current task assigned, along with the combat level of the player. Experience rates of 60,000 per hour or higher are possible.

Though slayer is usually considered the hardest 99 skill to achieve, Runecrafting and Agility are also both candidates for this title. Runecrafting, for instance, has much lower hourly exp rates than Slayer, but requires less concentration while training it. Agility can take less time to train level 99, but requires much more concentration, and is far more click intensive.

However, it is ''extremely difficult'' to obtain 99 Slayer before any other skill, since slayer trained through combat and [[hitpoints]] experience is gained at a faster rate. This makes the '''untrimmed''' Slayer cape one of the rarest in the game.

Slayer cape detail
Slayer cape (t) detail

A Slayer cape is the Cape of Accomplishment for players who have achieved level 99 in the Slayer skill. The cape can be purchased for 99,000 coins from Duradel (slayer master), in Shilo Village. Slayer capes are black in colour, and have a red trim if the player has more than one level 99 skill. Note that since Duradel is in Shilo Village, the Shilo Village quest must be completed before the player can obtain the Slayer cape.

Slayer cape emote

A player performing the slayer cape's emote.

Like all skill capes, the Slayer cape gives +9 to all defensive stats, and also a +4 bonus to prayer if it is trimmed, which requires a separate skill at level 99. The cape is automatically trimmed if this condition is met.

When the slayer cape is equipped or in your inventory, there is a 10% chance of having a previous slayer task reassigned when speaking to a slayer master in person or through the NPC Contact spell.

As of 20 April 2019, there are 35,314 current members that have achieved level 99 in Slayer.
